We saw in Psalm 73 the painful gap between God’s goodness and our daily suffering brought into the sanctuary of God. The Lord reorients our hearts by showing the true end of the wicked, revealing our own need for mercy, and fixing our hope on Jesus, whose death and resurrection bring us near to God and hold us there.
In Philippians 1:5, Paul praises the believers’ koinonia— their partnership in the gospel from the first day. Like California redwoods whose shallow roots intertwine in groves, God’s design is that we grow tall together, not alone. The gospel bound Lydia and the Philippian jailer into one people—servants, saints, and siblings under King Jesus. Fellowship is a gift to receive and a shared life to enter.
In Psalm 24, we studied David’s song of the King of Glory who created all things and calls a generation onto His hill. Because we cannot stand in His presence by our own righteousness, He gives us the righteousness of Christ—the only One with clean hands, lifted up for us. We were invited to let the King of Glory in with the boast of children about their heavenly Father.
In Psalm 23, we saw the Lord as the shepherd who provides rest, guidance, comfort, joy, and hope for His people. Because Jesus is the Good Shepherd who laid down his life for the sheep and will bring them safely home, we were called to trust him personally and rest in his all-sufficient care.
We studied Psalm 20 and 21, where God’s people pray for the King before battle and praise Him for victory after. Psalm 20 calls us to trust in the name of the Lord our God; Psalm 21 calls us to rejoice in His saving strength. Because Christ has already won the victory through His death and resurrection, we bring our daily battles to Him in prayer and praise Him for the deliverance He has secured.
